Throwback Thursday to a time when students lived in fear......during the 19th century and into the 20th century corporal punishment was widely used in schools. If children 'misbehaved' at school they may have been subjected to several (or more) lashes from the cane or a ruler on the backs of their hands. It was widely believed that corporal punishment would maintain discipline. Corporal punishment was not banned in state schools until 1986 and in private schools 1998. To find out more about educ
