A Hurricane Warning remains in effect for Jamaica as powerful Category 5 Hurricane Melissa continues its slow and menacing approach toward the island. At 5:00 a.m., the centre of Melissa was located near latitude 17.2°N, longitude 78.3°W — about 180 kilometres (115 miles) west-southwest of Kingston or 120 kilometres (75 miles) south of Negril Point. Conditions are deteriorating across Jamaica as the extremely dangerous category 5 Hurricane Melissa slowly approaches the island.
