My wife and I are moving back to Peoria because Chicago was too big after we passed our mid 20s and Madison is great but outrageously expensive if you’re trying to own a home. Peoria has almost everything we want.

Feb 21, 2019 · I rented two bedroom apartments in East Peoria and Morton when I still lived in Illinois. Both were under $550/month and the landlords are great. I worked in Peoria near OSF and my drive was about 15 from Morton and 10 minutes from EP. I really liked how cheap they were, how nice they were, and how close to Peoria I was without being in Peoria.

There's some interesting stuff going on (dependent on your interests, obviously), some good restaurants, and decent jobs depending on the industry. The south side of Peoria has the reputation of cheap housing, poor, high crime, bad schools, neglected neighborhoods, and food deserts. Probably not as bad as it's perceived. But housing prices in Peoria are very reasonable and traffic is not an issue, so most people who have a decent income live elsewhere.
