Hundreds of Indians were repatriated out of scam cities in Myanmar through Thailand this week following an intervention by New Delhi as Cambodian authorities insisted they were intensifying their crackdown on the criminal syndicates running human trafficking networks.

India has brought home nearly 300 of its nationals who were lured to various southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar, with fake job offers and made to engage in cybercrime and other fraudulent activities in scam compounds,

Thailand requires any country repatriating its citizens from Myawaddy to send officials to the Thai-Myanmar border to facilitate the process, which includes disease screening and immigration checks.

The Indian nationals, from states such as Andhra, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and UP, had all been lured to either Thailand or Myanmar with false promises of jobs in the IT sector

As many as 266 Indian nationals were rescued and repatriated to India after being rescued from call centres in South East Asia on Tuesday. This comes a day after 283 Indian nationals were evacuated by a C-17 Indian military plane.
