Southport Cares, a local non-profit has an update on efforts to support those impacts by the mass shooting event from the end of September.

Southport Cares was formed five years ago. When the town became the victim of a mass shooting, the nonprofit realized it was time to step up.

The fourth largest county in the state and the fastest growing, Brunswick has around 19 municipalities that held elections this year — some of the outcomes are shaking up boards.

The brother of the Southport killer has told the public inquiry into the dance class stabbings he believes his sibling may have targeted children because it would "hurt society particularly badly". Axel Rudakubana, then 17, killed three children at a Taylor Swift-themed event in the Merseyside town on 29 July 2024.

One of the most contested elections is expected to be in Southport, where Mayor Rich Alt is once again taking on Dr. Joe Pat Hatem.
