Big Dumper keeps on dumpin’. Mariners slugger Cal Raleigh clobbered a 97 mph fastball from Angels reliever José Fermín in the top of the sixth inning of Saturday’s game at Angel Stadium, sending it back at 113.
Raleigh became the first catcher in history to win the Home Run Derby, was named the American League's starting catcher and had 38 home runs at the All-Star Break. His 38 homers set MLB records for the most by a catcher, switch-hitter and American League hitter by the All-Star Break in MLB history.
The homer also came at a key time, snapping Raleigh out of a bit of a funk and also propelling him further into the MLB lead. With Yankees superstar Aaron Judge hitting the IL (right elbow), Raleigh has a chance to make a run at the American League MVP award.
SEA vs. LAA at Angel Stadium
The Seattle Mariners catcher that we all affectionately know as "Big Dumper" hit a no-doubter off Los Angeles Angels reliever Jose Fermin Saturday evening for homer No. 40 on the year. On a 2-0 count, Raleigh got a 97-mph heater low and in the zone, which he quickly took 416 feet out to right field.
Cal Raleigh hit his 40th home run of the season on Saturday against Los Angeles Angels and broke a Seattle Mariners franchise record in the process.
