Colts Shane Steichen weighs in on trade for CB Sauce Gardner
Prior to Wednesday's practice, Colts' HC Shane Steichen weighed in on the addition of CB Sauce Gardner at the NFL trade deadline.
Mitchell had made just two catches for 15 yards since that game, clearly falling out of favor with head coach Shane Steichen, who also serves as Indianapolis’ offensive play-caller. In his Wednesday press conference, Steichen was asked if he had a chance to talk to Mitchell since the Colts agreed to the deal.
Indianapolis has the NFL's best record as the season nears its halfway point, but the Colts know better than to get comfortable in the driver's seat.
For the second week in a row, rookie Riley Leonard will be the Indianapolis Colts' backup quarterback, said head coach Shane Steichen after Friday's practice. However, Steichen did also add the caveat that Leonard is the backup "for right now," signaling that nothing is set in stone at this time.
The Colts have had something of a patchwork defensive unit this season, primarily because of defensive back injuries that date to training camp.
