The University of Arizona apologized after a portion of the team’s fanbase sang an “unacceptable chant” directed towards Brigham Young University (BYU) following the Wildcats’ men’s basketball team’s defeat at the hands of the Cougars on Saturday.

Arizona’s loss to BYU this past weekend still stings for head coach Tommy Lloyd, but for more than what happened on the court. Immediately following the Cougars’ dramatic one-point victory, Arizona’s student section began a profane chant directed at members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as BYU players headed to the locker room.

In the aftermath of the anti-LDS chants that broke out at the McKale Center in Tucson last weekend, the Big 12 Conference was in discussions with both Arizona and BYU about a response.
