According to the board, all absentee ballots must be received by the voter’s county board by 7:30 p.m. by the primary election, which is March 3.

Voting rights group says Parish Prison inmates, yet to be convicted of a felony, should be allowed to cast absentee ballots from the jail if they can’t vote in person for the first time.

State law no longer allows a grace period for ballots postmarked on or before Election Day but received up to three days after the election.

Absentee ballots will be mailed out on Monday to those who requested them, marking the start of voting for the primary on March 3. The State Board of Elections says mail ballots must be sent back early to the county board of elections to be received in the office-- not in the mail--by 7:30 p.m. on election night.
