Large and destructive avalanches are "very likely" on Mount Washington Monday due to extreme winds, forecasters say.

It's been a busy week in the White Mountains and Mount Washington, with extreme wind gusts and avalanche warnings. On Monday, Mount Washington recorded a wind gust of 161 MPH. This is the observatory's highest daily peak wind gust since February 2019.

Significant snowfall from the weekend and the return of gusty winds will create a high risk of avalanches in parts of the White Mountains.
