The Islanders want more Long Island youths, particularly girls, to experience playing hockey. The organization on Friday announced a “significant expansion” of its commitment to youth hockey, including its first Girls Hockey Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at The Park at UBS Arena as well as Try Hockey for Free events.

The team is launching a series of new initiatives to promote gender equity in youth hockey and inspire the next generation of female players.

With assistance from corporate partners JetBlue, Global Industrial and Xerox, the Islanders’ efforts in making hockey more accessible and inclusive, new initiatives have been established.
