But the attack has far-reaching implications for the two middle-east nations and the region as a whole. Above all else, the conflict has the potential to disrupt peace and progress in the two nations and create a state of instability for as long as the war lasts.
The Biden administration rallied to Israel’s side when Israel struck Iran last year in retaliation for Iranian backing for its enemies in its war against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah and for an intense barrage of Iranian missiles on Israel.
Israel and Iran have begun a new round of attacks, as the conflict between the two heavily armed rivals enters its fourth day.
In May 2025, the US and Israel then advanced a new aid mechanism for Gaza run by private security contractors operating in Israeli-approved “safe zones”. Aid is conditional on population displacement, with civilians in northern Gaza denied access unless they relocate.
In the midst of rising tensions between Israel and Iran, G7 leaders have expressed support for Tel Aviv's right to self-defence while opposing Tehran's acquisition of nuclear weapons. This stance was revealed in a draft statement,
"This confrontation will not end with last night's limited actions and Iran's strikes will continue, and this action will be very painful and regrettable for the aggressors," Fars reported, citing senior military officials.
