Kendrick Lamar, one of hip-hop’s most venerated artists for the past decade, performed “Not Like Us,” a diss track aimed at Drake, to cap the Super Bowl halftime show in New Orleans, the first to be headlined by a solo rapper.

As it turns out, artists do not get paid for the Super Bowl Halftime Show—at least not by the NFL. The NFL does, however, cover all the production costs of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, so artists won't be in the red if they perform.

In 2022, Kendrick Lamar took to the Super Bowl stage as part of Dr. Dre’s halftime show, alongside fellow performers Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Snoop Dogg. Little did he know that he’d be back so soon.
