Rhapsody of the Seas is delivering dozens of pallets of critical supplies to Falmouth, Jamaica instead of a planned port visit.

Several of the world’s leading cruise companies have announced financial pledges totalling more than US$3 million in support of Jamaica’s Hurricane Melissa relief efforts. Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean Group and Disney Cruise Line have each committed US$1 million in financial assistance.

The U.S. State Department has released its travel advisory for Jamaica, warning Americans to reconsider travel to the Caribbean destination.

Hurricane Melissa— one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded—is now off Cuba’s eastern coast, after leaving a trail of destruction across the large island and its much smaller neighbor, Jamaica.

Tens of thousands of Jamaicans were in shelters, and more than two-thirds of the island was still without power, according to officials.
