TikTok is reportedly setting up a plan to shut down in the U.S. as the Supreme Court continues to weigh Sunday's looming ban.

ByteDance has revealed what will happen to the TikTok app in the United States once the shutdown comes into place on Sunday, January 19.

If TikTok is banned on January 19, users in the United States could see their access abruptly shut off, but they'll be able to retrieve their personal data.

Users who have the TikTok app on their phone will still be able to access it after Jan. 19. However, because the ban would prevent Apple and Google from providing the app with necessary updates, TikTok would quickly break down and become unusable, leading Americans to look for an alternative app.

TikTok plans to shut its app for U.S. users from Sunday, when a federal ban on the social media app could come into effect, unless the Supreme Court moves to block it, people familiar with the matter said.

TikTok's reported plans include giving users a pop-message directing them to a website with information about the ban.
