City officials say 10 Israelis were arrested ahead of Thursday's soccer match; Dutch police warn of fresh calls for rioting after anti-Israel protesters set fire to tram car Monday

Mayor Femke Halsema was speaking at an emergency meeting of the Amsterdam city council days after the Dutch capital was rocked by violence between Israeli football fans and men on scooters in several areas of the city.

Amsterdam’s mayor condemned the attacks on the Israeli fans, some of whom had been chanting anti-Arab slogans, saying there was “no excuse.” Police said five people were sent to the hospital.

On the day of the game, Maccabi supporters were filmed chanting anti-Arab slogans in front of the National Monument on Amsterdam's central Dam square, including "Fuck you Palestine", in videos verified by Reuters.

Amsterdam has banned demonstrations for three days after Israeli soccer fans were beaten and injured in violent clashes in the city overnight, which Dutch authorities condemned Friday as antisemitic.
