Reds Make Decisions on Eugenio Suarez and Pierce Johnson for 2027
The Cincinnati Reds just had their worst season in four years and came stone cold last in the National League Central Division. There is a lot to do, and a lot of holes to plug in both the line-up and the pitching stuff.
According to MLB insider Jim Bowden, the Reds will “absolutely” consider trading De La Cruz this offseason. Speaking on the D-Mac and Reiter show Thursday, Bowden suggested that moving the 24-year-old could make sense for Cincinnati, particularly if the team believes it cannot compete financially to keep him long-term.
That will be much easier said than done, though. Spotrac recently projected that Stephenson would sign a 4-year, $46 million deal in free agency this winter, which would put him in the Reds' budget, but it would be a big move compared to some of the moves in the past.
The Cincinnati Reds will consider dealing superstar shortstop Elly De La Cruz, according to a prominent MLB insider.
The Reds finished 75-87 and face a Nov. 2 deadline on options for Emilio Pagán, Eugenio Suárez and Pierce Johnson as they plan for 2027.
The Cincinnati Reds need to make some big decisions with their free agents this offseason.
Taylor Ward had 36 home runs and 103 RBI for the Los Angeles Angels in 2025. In 2026, he had seven. That gap is the reason that Ward will not have much leverage in MLB free agency this offseason, which leaves the door open for the Cincinnati Reds to sign him potentially at a discount.
