AS Jamaica begins recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Melissa, Kingston-based haulage and logistics company MJ Trucking is among those coordinating heavy equipment and transportation support for critical areas across the island.

Category 5 Hurricane Melissa sped up early Tuesday making landfall in Jamaica around 1 p.m, tying the record for the strongest landfall in the Atlantic.

Hurricane Melissa has become a truly historic storm — a powerful, slow-moving Category 5 hurricane that’s now setting its sights on Jamaica.

Melissa is expected to weaken a little while crossing. Forecasters said the storm will turn northeast and cross southeastern Cuba Tuesday night as a major hurricane and reach the southeastern Bahamas as a hurricane of Category 2 strength Wednesday.
