BOSTON – Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves and posted his third shutout of the season for the Boston Bruins in a 2-0 win against the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden on Thursday.

Morgan Geekie scored in the second period and David Pastrnak added an empty-net goal to help Boston bounce back from loss to New Jersey

BOSTON — Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves against his former team, David Pastrnak set up Morgan Geekie’s goal and added an empty-netter and the Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators 2-0 on Thursday night.

It’s not like the Ottawa Senators stunk up the TD Garden on Thursday. It wasn’t like the game two days before when the Senators absorbed an embarrassing 5-0 road spanking against the New York Rangers.

The Bruins have fought the injury bug while battling to remain among the NHL’s playoff contenders with under three months remaining in the regular season.

For the second-last time this season, the Boston Bruins (24-20-6) battled the Ottawa Senators (24-20-4) in a pivotal divisional matchup that may have large playoff implications later down the line.

In the first few months of the National Hockey League season, the Boston Bruins were getting inconsistent goaltending from their newly signed netminder Jeremy Swayman, and freshly acquired backup Joonas Korpisalo,

The Ottawa Senators were blanked by former goaltender Joonas Korpisalo as the Boston Bruins win 2-0 to secure the third Atlantic Division spot. Two minutes into the second period, Morgan Geekie got a shot past Anton Forsberg for the forward’s 13th of the season.

The Bruins are set to receive a lift in the coming days, as Hampus Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy were regular participants in practice Monday.

The Bruins have not had Lindholm and McAvoy anchoring their D corps together since the former suffered a lower-body injury on Nov. 12 against the Blues.

The up-and-down Boston Bruins remain squarely on a crowded playoff bubble in the Eastern Conference. Team president Cam Neely has acknowledged that a “retool” could be on the table between now and the March 7 trade deadline.
