FIFA has greenlit a 48-team Women's World Cup for 2031, mirroring the men's format. This means more nations get a shot on the big stage, hopefully boosting investment in women's soccer worldwide.

Additionally FIFA updated the sports disciplinary code on racism to include more tools to combat racism on and off the field

The women's World Cup will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams from the 2031 edition onwards after world soccer's governing body FIFA said its Council approved the proposal at a virtual meeting on Friday.
