"The Running Man" was first adapted in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role, but that earlier version was different in some key points. Rather than a desperate father, Schwarzenegger played a helicopter pilot framed for murder who agrees to the game as his only alternative to incarceration.

Edgar Wright directs the film, which stars Powell as a father who enters a deadly competition to help his sick daughter.
