Just after 2 p.m., a sergeant responded to a suspected carjacking in downtown San Jose. According to police, the officer was shot and was taken to the hospital, where they are in stable but critical condition. The suspect was declared deceased at the scene, though the department has not released details about his manner of death.

On June 20, SAPD's Street Crimes Unit was attempting to arrest a wanted man in the 300 block of Leroux Street, police say.
