Fiji Deputy Prime Minister Viliame Gavoka announced that foreign airline crew members were sexually assaulted and robbed on New Year's Day.

Three Virgin Australia IPO-VIR.AX staff are not being detained by Fijian police investigating an alleged sexual assault and theft during a layover, said the Fiji government, but added they had been advised by their headquarters to stay in their hotel.

The man has been charged with one count of rape and another count of sexual assault and will face Nadi Magistrates Court on Monday.

The alleged attacks took place in the nightclub area of the city of Nadi, home to the international airport, officials said.

Authorities in Fiji have charged a man with the alleged rape and sexual assault of a 21-year-old member of a Virgin Australia flight crew on New Year's Day, a police official in the Pacific island nation said on Saturday.

Following investigations by local authorities, Fiji’s Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew confirmed a man had been arrested and charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault in connection to the alleged incident, the Fiji Times reports.

The man is facing one count of rape and sexual assault and is due to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court on Monday, local media reported.

The Fiji government on Thursday said police were investigating incidents involving two crew members of Australian airline Virgin Australia who were allegedly victims of rape and theft in Nadi in the early hours of New Year's Day.
