Communications giant T-Mobile is being sued in the US in relation to a controversial data breach incident dating back to 2021.

In a statement released Monday, the Bellevue-based telecom company said it was surprised by the lawsuit from the Attorney General's office.

Washington state has sued T-Mobile over failing to secure the sensitive personal information of over 2 million Washington residents in a 2021 data breach.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed a consumer protection lawsuit against T-Mobile on Monday, claiming that the Bellevue, Wash.-based wireless carrier failed to adequately secure sensitive personal information of more than 2 million state residents.
