Hurricane Oscar has formed off the coast of the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Saturday. The storm poses potential threats to surrounding areas of the southeastern Bahamas and is expected to bring hurricane conditions and produce a storm surge on the Turks and Caicos Islands, with heavy rainfall, the NHC said.

Two new tropical storms were named Saturday and one quickly developed into a hurricane as the deadly 2024 storm season continued to churn across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

Off the coast of Belize on the western rim of the Caribbean, Tropical Storm Nadine formed early Saturday but posed no threat to Texas.
