The Dark Ages is developed by Bethesda's id Software and is the third game in the newest series that began with 2016's Doom and continued with 2020's Doom Eternal. Although the series is now owned by Microsoft, the company is releasing The Dark Ages on PS5 as part of its new multiplatform release strategy.

In an FAQ posted on Steam , the developers answer a number of questions about the game, such as if the Steam Deck is supported (sadly, no) or if the game requires a Bethesda.net account to play (also no), before going into known issues.
Doom: The Dark Ages officially launches on May 15, although owners of the Premium Edition can start playing right away. Needless to say, the Premium Edition costs more than the Standard Edition, retailing for £99.99 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

As posted to the Gaming Leaks and Rumours subreddit, some players have received their discs ahead of the 15th May street date, which means details are popping up all over the place now, including information about the plot, menus, combat, weapons, beastiary, and more.
A shield is introduced very early on in Doom: The Dark Ages. Enemies will throw out attacks that glow green, meaning they can be parried, which you will soon realise is the central mechanic of the game.
