National Night Out brought neighbors across the Sacramento region together Tuesday through multiple events created to promote police-community partnerships.

National Night Out takes place on the first Tuesday of every August, with the goal of encouraging community members to meet each other and mingle with law enforcement and first responders.

According to the National Night Out website, the annual event is meant to be a community-building campaign promoting partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. It was introduced in 1984 through a network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers.
