Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 sales did not meet Square Enix's expectations, the company has said.

Square Enix has said that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 both underperformed. As part of a newly published results briefing, which was originally held in May, the company said that “profits unfortunately did not meet [its] expectations.”

Big games like Final Fantasy XVI and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth did not deliver expected profits for Square Enix, and didn't stabilize its operating losses.

A recent interview revealed that Aerith was designed before Tifa in Final Fantasy VII and that they were originally one character.

Final Fantasy developers are not satisfied with the profit margins of FF 16 and 7 Rebirth in the latest briefing. According to the president, both the games cannibalized each other’s sales. Hence, the company plans for multiple platform strategies and extends the time for future titles.
