The Washington Commanders are being praised for trading for 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel, but Dan Orlovsky of ESPN hopes the team doesn't think its job is done.

"The best outcome for the 49ers is that a team becomes suddenly desperate for receiver help during training camp; this also keeps Samuel on his existing deal, which is richer than one he would sign in free agency,

The 49ers may have moved on from Deebo Samuel, but their salary cap will still take a hit. San Francisco will take a $31 million dead cap hit, which comes from money that had already been paid to Samuel that hadn’t counted against the team’s salary cap due to the structure of his contract.

With much of the NFL in Indianapolis for the NFL draft combine, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade Samuel to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round pick. As noted by the insider, the trade cannot become official until the start of the league year on March 12.
