New Jersey will experience the coldest conditions of the winter so far over the next couple of days with temperatures below freezing until Friday, forecasters say. Highs will only reach the upper teens and low 20s on Tuesday and Wednesday before plunging into the single digits overnight with widespread wind chill values between 5 and -5 degrees,

The coldest air of the season will arrive by Friday. Friday night into Saturday, temperatures could dip into the upper 30s near the coast and close to freezing inland. With wind chills factored in, temperatures will feel like the low 30s near the coast Saturday morning.

The First Alert Weather Team says the temperatures are below freezing across much of the area as rain continues to transition into a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow across southern Georgia.

The WAFB First Alert Storm Team has declared a First Alert Weather Day for Wednesday, Jan. 22. While the precipitation has ended, dangerous, record-setting cold is expected during the day. In fact, it could be the coldest we’ve seen in Baton Rouge since 1989.

The First Alert Weather Team says heavy snow has impacted much of the Deep South through Tuesday from New Orleans to Pensacola.
